Someone at work, shot straight

What this shoot is, and what the day asks of you.

You play someone at work and we photograph it honestly. Chef whites in a real kitchen. Overalls in a workshop. Tailoring at a desk. Hands busy, environment visible, natural light with a little fill.

Nothing is styled to look aspirational. The aim is that somebody looking at the picture believes you do the job.

This is not a glamorous shoot and it will not look like the others here. What it gives you is a set of commercial looking images, and commercial work is what gets model bookings from businesses rather than from photographers.

Wardrobe is real working clothes, borrowed rather than bought, and I can usually sort that. It runs in any season and the location depends on which role we settle on.

If you are trying to move from portfolio work into paid commercial jobs, this is the most useful shoot on the list.

Shot list

The frames I am aiming for. It gives you an idea of how the day runs.

  • Hands at the Task
Cropped close on the work itself, face out of frame or soft behind.
  • The Environmental Wide
You small in a working space that fills the frame around you.
  • Caught Mid Task
Not looking at camera, genuinely occupied. The most useful frame commercially.
  • The Considered Look Up
Pausing and meeting the lens. Warm rather than posed.
  • Tools and Detail
The objects of the job shot on their own. Supporting images that sell the story.
  • Doorway or Threshold
Standing at the entrance to the space with natural light from one side.

Where and how to take it

Where the shoot happens and what to do if you want it.

Location varies. Based from Base Business Park, Unit 5 Allied House, Rendlesham, Woodbridge, Suffolk, IP12 2TZ

This is a TFP shoot. Nobody pays anybody. We both put in the time and we both come away with images we want to use.

If it is a fit I will send you the full brief and we will sort a date. If it is not, I will say so rather than leave you waiting.

Every shoot on this list is SFW. If you are under 18 I will need a parent or guardian to confirm they are happy and to be present on the day.

Message me on WhatsApp and the shoot name is filled in already. Attach a recent photo of yourself so I can see who I am talking to. A phone selfie is fine, it does not need to be a portfolio image.
