One light, no tricks

What this shoot is, and what the day asks of you.

Studio beauty. Close crops, skin, eyes, jawline, hands. One light and a reflector, plain background, no props. It is the simplest shoot here and the hardest to do well, which is exactly why it is on the list.

Every model I speak to wants good beauty images and almost nobody has them. Most beauty work falls down on the lighting or on retouching that goes too far. This one is careful about both.

A professional makeup artist does the makeup on the day. Please do not arrive already made up. Come with clean skin and hair we can work with, and allow time at the start for that to happen.

Wardrobe barely matters, because almost nothing below the collarbone is in frame. Bare shoulders or a plain vest is all it needs. Studio only, so the weather is never a factor.

There is nothing to hide behind on this one. That is the point of it, and it is why the results hold up.

Shot list

The frames I am aiming for. It gives you an idea of how the day runs.

  • The Straight Portrait
Square to camera, eyes level, symmetrical. The hardest frame and the most useful one.
  • Eyes Down
Lids lowered, lashes and brow doing the work. Shows the makeup at its best.
  • The Jawline
Turned to three quarters with light skimming the edge of the face.
  • Hands In
A hand brought to the face or neck. It changes the whole feel of a beauty set.
  • Profile Against Light
Side on, with a clean rim running along the nose and lip.
  • The Detail
Lips, eye or skin texture alone, cropped tight. Supporting frames that give the set depth.

Where and how to take it

Where the shoot happens and what to do if you want it.

Base Business Park, Unit 5 Allied House, Rendlesham, Woodbridge, Suffolk, IP12 2TZ

This is a TFP shoot. Nobody pays anybody. We both put in the time and we both come away with images we want to use.

If it is a fit I will send you the full brief and we will sort a date. If it is not, I will say so rather than leave you waiting.

Every shoot on this list is SFW. If you are under 18 I will need a parent or guardian to confirm they are happy and to be present on the day.

Take Clean Light

Message me on WhatsApp and the shoot name is filled in already. Attach a recent photo of yourself so I can see who I am talking to. A phone selfie is fine, it does not need to be a portfolio image.
