Fog, backlight and pine

What this shoot is, and what the day asks of you.

Rendlesham Forest is a few minutes from the studio. Pines in rows, low fog when the morning gives it, and light coming through the trees from behind you. Cool greens and greys with one warm source. Quiet rather than spooky.

The forest carries a name most people recognise, and that does us no harm when the images go out. What I am after though is atmosphere, not novelty. Nothing here leans on the story.

This is the hardest shoot on the list to schedule, because fog does not arrive on request. If you take this one I will need you available at short notice on a morning that looks right, and it may sit waiting for weeks.

Wardrobe is simple and timeless. Wool, long coats, bare feet if you are willing. Nothing that dates the picture to a particular year. The window runs October to March.

If the morning comes up clear, we do not shoot. The whole thing rests on the weather doing something specific.

  • Figure in the Rows
    Standing between pines with the trunks receding on both sides. Long lens to compress the depth.
  • Backlit Silhouette
    Sun low behind you, your shape reading clean against the light coming through the trees.
  • Walking Away
    Shot from behind at distance, moving into the fog. Quiet and open ended.
  • Close in the Cold
    Tight portrait with breath visible and hair damp from the air.
  • Low and Looking Up
    Camera near the ground, trees towering, you small against them.
  • The Clearing
    Stepping out of the treeline into open light. The one bright frame in a dark set.

This is a TFP shoot. Nobody pays anybody. We both put in the time and we both come away with images we want to use.

If it is a fit I will send you the full brief and we will sort a date. If it is not, I will say so rather than leave you waiting.

Every shoot on this list is SFW. If you are under 18 I will need a parent or guardian to confirm they are happy and to be present on the day.
